Njombe Highlands

Irish Potato Value Chain Development – Njombe Highlands

Project Overview:
In the cool highlands of Njombe, FarmFinest is running a comprehensive Irish potato value chain development project. The region’s rich volcanic soil and favorable climate make it ideal for large-scale potato farming.

Project Components:

  • Input support: Improved certified seed potatoes, fertilizers, and crop protection.
  • Agronomic training through our extension services and digital platform.
  • Aggregation and quality control for uniform market-grade potatoes.
  • Market development through B2B sales, wholesale traders, and institutional buyers.

Aggregation and Distribution: FarmFinest aggregates the produce through rural collection points and transports it to our distribution hubs for delivery to markets in:

  • Dar es Salaam
  • Dodoma
  • Arusha
  • Cross-border outlets

Outcomes:

  • Farmers have reported a 40% increase in yield due to better inputs and practices.
  • Price volatility has decreased through structured aggregation and contracted buyers.
  • Farmers are now part of a predictable and profitable potato value chain.

Long-Term Vision: We aim to scale this model into a replicable framework for potato production across other highland zones in Tanzania, building a year-round supply chain that benefits both producers and consumers.
